LinkedIn Follow-up Tasks

Birdie automatically creates tasks in your CRM/SEP when someone engages with you on LinkedIn. These tasks are then shown in the Task Runner so that you have a centralized place to find the people you need to follow up with.

Currently, Birdie will create a follow-up task in these scenarios:

  1. When someone in your CRM accepts your connection request.
  2. When someone in your CRM sends you a message.
  3. When a reminder you set for yourself to follow up comes due.
  4. When someone in your CRM reads a message you sent them.
  5. When someone in your CRM views your profile.

Prerequisites

Birdie's LinkedIn Follow-up Tasks do not work with Google Sheets. You must be using one of the following CRMs or SEPs:

  • Salesforce
  • HubSpot
  • Outreach
  • Salesloft

Configure how Follow-up Tasks should be created

Open Birdie's settings, click on Optional Settings at the top, and then find the two settings:

  • Create a CRM task and assign it to yourself when someone in your CRM sends you a LinkedIn message? (1)
    • This setting controls how far back Birdie will check to see which contacts you need to follow up with. The default value for this setting is 7 days, which means Birdie will ignore any people who have messaged you more than 7 days ago.
    • One thing to note is that Birdie will always look for profile views 2 weeks back. Currently you cannot change how far Birdie looks back for profile views.
    • If you want to disable Follow-up Tasks, set the setting to No .
  • When creating a CRM task to follow up with someone who sent you a message, when should the task be due? (2)
    • This setting controls when the LinkedIn follow-up tasks should be due. The default value for the setting is immediately, which means that the due date of the task will be the same as when the person accepted your connection request / messaged you / viewed your profile.
    • If you don’t want the tasks to be due immediately, you can schedule them to be due as late as 3 days after the person accepted your connection request / messaged you / viewed your profile.

When you've configured this feature to your liking, click Save at the bottom.

Have Birdie check your messages and profile views

Birdie will automatically check your LinkedIn messages and profile views every hour. You can also manually force Birdie to check by following the instructions below:

In LinkedIn, click on Birdie's menu item icon (1), and choose either Check your LinkedIn inbox (2) or Check your profile views (3). Checking your inbox will look for people who have accepted your connection request / messaged you. Checking your profile views will look for people who have viewed your profile.

While Birdie is checking, it will display a progress indicator at the top right.

Do not close the browser tab until the indicator finishes counting up to 100%. However, you can navigate away from the tab to do something else and return to it later.

View your Follow-up Tasks in the Task Runner

If you have any tasks due, you will a solid paper airplane icon. Click on this icon to open the Task Runner.

The Task Runner will display a list of tasks indicating who you need to follow up with, and why.

You can click on the CRM icon to open the person's CRM record. Similarly, you can click on the LinkedIn icon to open the person's LinkedIn profile. If you send a message to the person, Birdie will automatically complete all open tasks for that person. You can also click on the check icon to mark the task as complete.
